An Antidote to Mossies & Bitey Things....

ree

Bug-Off You Blighters!

Summer always brings mosquitos, sand flies, no see-ums and other fun biting insects. We all react differently; for many of us they are just an itchy annoyance, for others they can leave unsightly weals for days. The best way is to avoid getting bitten altogether, but that’s often easier said than done.

Yes, we can use a spray full of DEET and other such toxic chemicals (remember whatever we put on our skin gets absorbed into our body) to keep the blighters off but who wants to absorb extra chemicals?

And with the emergence of Chikungunya Virus (whether you believe the hype or not) carried by mosquitoes, it doesn't hurt to stop getting bitten in the first place.

So, I created a Bug-Off Balm that’s natural but actually works. I have used natural balms and sprays that did absolutely nothing in the past, but not this one.

Comments include, "It's the only natural bug balm that actually works!", "Smells Lovely", "I didn't get bitten once!"

Like anything, frequent re-application is key especially if you are sweating or in the water. The good thing is that with this balm, re-application will only do yourself and your skin good. And yes, you can use on children and elders without risk of irritation or horrible side effects. As this product contains essential oils, use with caution during pregnancy. I recommend not applying to your child or elder’s face or if you have sensitive skin.

And yes, this oil-based balm works. It’s oil based as the mossies find it harder to bite through oil and it’s the right texture to apply easily without melting. It smells delicious but the biters won’t think so! The base is lemon balm in almond oil, then beeswax is added to create the perfect consistency followed by peppermint, lemongrass and lavender essential oils.

Extra benefit, if you do get bitten, you can use this balm or my lavender balm (go here) to help reduce itching and help heal. I also recommend DMSO (70% dilution -weaker if on children or elders) to alleviate itching. As well as doing what it says on the tin (literally), here are the other potential benefits from using Bug-Off Balm:

-A great natural balm to keep mosquitoes and other annoying biters (sand flies, no-see-ums etc) away

-Moisturising and is nourishing for your skin,

-Lemon balm herb has the following qualities; anti-anxiety, calming, helps cramps, is brain protective, thyroid regulatory, it helps digestive problems and menstrual flow

-Lavender essential oil is healing, can be used for pain relief, good for haircare, relieves joint pain and sore muscles, helps respiratory disorders, PMS and hair growth

-Lemongrass essential oil again is good for pain, it has anti-bacterial and antifungal properties, reduces cholesterol, relieves headaches and regulates blood sugar, improving digestive health

-Peppermint essential oil helps nausea, improves headaches and mood, relieves pain, good for skin and hair care, is antimicrobial and improves athletic performance

With this laundry list of benefits, it’s also a great balm to have on hand for just about anything!
