Naturopathy

Naturopathy, harnesses the healing power of nature and helps you take control back of your health. It encompasses many of the therapeutic techniques in Traditional Medicine (also known as Alternative or Complementary Medicine) and has been used for millennia.  If we give the body what it needs to heal, it will recover from illness spontaneously. Using the ‘doctor as teacher’ methodology, you learn what you can do to improve your health; whether it’s a chronic health condition, or frequent acute bouts of sickness I’m here to listen and to help.

Often clients need help to understand where to start and to work out a buildable programme that fits with their life and commitments. Typical issues and conditions that have been successfully healed for example are; digestive issues, skin issues, hormonal issues, weight issues, sleep issues, aches and pains, general fatigue, mental or emotional health issues and you may be lacking in energy. Naturopathy helps you to gain real insights and knowledge into your own health and what you can do every day, week, month or just when the need arises, to put you back in the driving seat, when it comes to your health.

Healing may include all or any of the following; nutrition and healing diets advice,  lifestyle medicine, herbal medicine, naturopathic protocols, life coaching & counselling. I use iridology in my consultations to help pinpoint root causes and aid a healing programme development. Consultations are available for adults and children.

Iridology

Iridology is the science, art and practice of analysing the iris of the eye to determine the tissue state within the body. It works because the eye is connected to the brain by nerve bundles and in turn the brain is connected to the rest our body.

Iridology can reveal a predisposition to certain disorders and disease, long before the individual is aware of them. It is a valuable tool for disease prevention, and allows the practitioner to pinpoint possible root causes of existing symptoms, thus enabling weaker organs and systems to be supported, allowing true holistic healing.||

Time and time again, iridology results are shown to be uncannily accurate and an analysis helps the individual to bring the body back into balance. The aim is to treat the patient rather than the condition. Approximately 300 nerves from various parts of the body connect to the optic nerve. Based on this fact, it is considered possible to conduct a systematic health analysis by studying the iris. The condition of your bodily organs are reflected by reflex physiology that causes changes in the iris tissue. These changes are carried as signals from optic nerve fibres and are expressed as lesions or changes in the colour and structure of your iris.

Iris analysis is evidence based and offers information that is simply not available through conventional lab tests. Iridology can show which organs or systems are affected and does so non-invasively and reliably. It is safe, cost effective and painless.

Herbal Medicine

Herbalism uses plants and herbs to treat a variety of medical conditions, which are administered in many ways; internally and externally, via herbal capsules, tinctures, teas, lotions, creams and salves.

Herbs facilitate the healing of the whole person and may be used for physical, mental and emotional disorders.

I am a Certified Herbal Medicine Therapist in the Western tradition. I prepare and dispense herbal preparations made from Organic herbs.||

Herbs have been used as medicine for millennia. Before the early twentieth century, natural methods of curing people were common and since the late twentieth century more and more people have become disillusioned with Western medicine and  are seeking natural ways to cure their ills, in fact many pharmaceuticals use derivatives of, or attempt to recreate in the lab, bioactive ingredients of natural plants, for example, aspirin is a derivative of salicylic acid, which as salicin occurs in the flower buds of meadowsweet and in the bark and leaves of several trees, notably the white willow.

We have everything available on this planet in nature to keep us well and to cure us from disease, by helping our bodies to heal. We just need to have the knowledge to know what to use, in what dosage and how to prepare it. Herbs often work synergistically ie their compound effect works better with other herbs, rather than sole herbs. This is why I often use the 'Herbs of Grace' Herbal Formulae. When creating Herbal Teas I'll usually combine many nutrient-rich and flavourful herbs. Each herb has many benefits and nutrients including antioxidants and phytonutrients which nourish our bodies, to support our organs and systems, reducing symptoms and enabling us to heal.

As a Herbal Medicine Therapist, I 'prescribe' Herbal Formulae and Herbal Teas, as well as individual herbs, based on an Iridology analysis and the results from Optimal Naturopathic Health and Nutrition Consultations.

All our herbs are organic, Herbs of Grace Formulae  are put together by a Master Herbalist who is part of the British Herbal Medicine Association and the Unified Register of Herbal Practitioners. The herbs work best alongside changes to lifestyle and nutrition.

Please proceed with caution if pregnant and if taking pharmaceutical drugs, please check with your doctor before taking herbs.

Nutrition & Healing Diets

The food you eat will either take you towards health or take you toward illness and a healing protocol always starts with an analysis and focus on what you are eating and drinking; to eliminate harmful foods, correcting nutritional deficiencies, enabling the body to build or cleanse as required.  Healing Diets is not just about what you eat, but why you eat, examining the emotions behind eating. Healing diets coaching helps you fill in nutritional gaps, cleanse as needed, build minerals when required and ultimately help you change the way you eat and the way you view food, so that food will truly heal you. ||

I focus on the following:

  • Using whole  and organic foods as medicine

  • Detoxification and cleansing

  • Assessment of the constitution of the patient (iridology/ayurveda/ TCM)

  • Applying herbs, natural supplements, protocols, Bach Flower Remedies and Tissue Salts

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

  • What Is Naturopathy?
Naturopathy is the original Traditional Medicine, as it encompasses many different types of healing protocols and practices from many different cultures. Nowadays, Naturopathy comes under the Holistic Health Medicine, Alternative or Complementary Medicine umbrella. It is a system of healthcare that promotes the body’s own self-healing mechanisms. It uses natural therapies such as nutrition, lifestyle medicine, herbal medicine, hydrotherapy, acupuncture, homeopathy, fasting, cleansing, exercises, sleep regulation and other modalities. Naturopaths, naturopathic doctors and naturopathic practitioners utilise the following; The Healing Power of Nature- the body can heal itself, given the right condition and treatment Treat the Cause Not the Symptom- identifying the cause of illness rather than eliminating (by suppression) symptoms Treat the whole person- Naturopaths recognise each person’s uniqueness by taking into account individual physical, mental, emotional, environmental, socio-economic and other factors. They also understand that symptoms are frequently related to other parts of the body and that the whole person often needs addressing. Prevention is preferable to cure. Naturopaths encourage clients to make health practices part of their everyday life, to prevent any possible future illness and to mitigate any existing symptoms. Education- Naturopaths educate their patients by bringing a better understanding of health, how to maintain it and how to avoid getting sick, so that they can take responsibility for themselves.
  • What Is Iridology?
Used since 1665, but more extensively since 1881, Iridology is a diagnostic tool to help detect tissue conditions rather than diagnosing medical conditions. The study of the iris and sclera (white of the eye) it can help you understand the condition of your body, to understand why certain symptoms are happening and help you to reverse issues before they become problematic or that you are even aware of them. It takes a holistic approach and it recognises inherent weaker areas, which may cause current issues or may cause problems in the future should the body be weakened by other factors. An eye chart is used which represents all organs and systems, situated in each iris, which helps to correlate the various parts of the human body with these different zones in the iris. The practice is safe, non-invasive and can give ‘long term’ insights into an individual’s health.
  • What Can I expect During a Consultation?
I will ask you to complete a health questionnaire, regarding your physical, mental and emotional health and a ‘daily check in’ for a few days before the consultation. This is required to see which health symptoms, you are currently dealing with and helps me to focus on potential issues. The first consultation is two hours long and I’ll ask you questions regarding the information provided in the questionnaire and we’ll discuss your current health goals and the most important changes and protocols that will need to be implemented for you to achieve your health goals. If the session is face to face I will take photos of your irises. If it is a remote consultation , I’ll ask. you to send photos of your eyes in advance as well- this aids in diagnosis. After the consultation and a summing up and agreeance of everything that needs to be done for the first few weeks, I go away write up your notes and consider the herbs that are recommended. I will then be back in touch to confirm the herbal prescription and we can arrange collection, or I can send or I can advise where you can purchase locally. I then send your notes, tips and tools for your digestion and review. After this first session, I follow up a few days later to see if you have any immediate questions and agree upon a follow up date, usually 2-3 weeks after the first, but it depends upon the individual. The number of follow up sessions required, depends upon the individual, the health condition being dealt with and the motivation and discipline of the individual.
  • What is Herbal Medicine?
Herbal medicine is the practice of utilising herbs and plants to heal the body. While different herbs have different therapeutic uses, typically plants can heal a number of different symptoms and help to support the body. Herbs are often used in combination as they have a synergetic effect and can be used internally and externally, in the forms of powders, capsules, teas, whole herbs, in tinctures and extracts and in creams and lotions. Herbal medicine is usually part of the ‘prescription’ from a full Naturopathic Health Consultation, however I can consult solely upon which herbs are best for you and your condition.
  • What are Healing Diets?
A well-nourished body is one of the corner stones of health. The food you eat can either take you towards health or towards illness. Unfortunately in today’s world many people are not aware what good nutrition truly is. Whole organic food, cleansing and rebuilding, supplementing and other naturopathic protocols are all included within healing diets protocols. Nutrition is always covered during the Naturopathic Consultations.
  • Can sessions be conducted via Zoom as well as in person?
Yes, if you are in Hong Kong, I can consult from my office in Sai Kung or we can consult over Zoom. I have consulted with many people in different parts of the world over the years and am adept at juggling timezones!
  • Can you combine naturopathy with strength & conditioning training
Absolutely, if you live local or local-ish to me, we can talk about what could work for you and your schedule.
